Christian Radio Host’s Tweet “LGBTs Stole The Rainbow From God” Still Lives In Our Heads Rent Free

Tweets often blink out of our memory within a week at most, no matter how much drama they may stir up for the brief moments that they matter. But every once in a while, a tweet comes along that is so absurd, so completely out of this world, that it buries itself deep within our bones, becoming a part of us to forever be called forth by memory at the most unexpected times.

Influencer @mattxiv recently reminded us of one of the classics, which has also been referred to as “one of the greatest unintentional s—tposts ever.”

“Worst example of cultural appropriation ever: LGBTs stole the rainbow from God,” @BryanJFischer wrote in 2017. “It’s his. He invented it. Gen. 9:11-17. Give it back.”

Bible-thumping Christians, of course, believe their God created everything and therefore they are, apparently, entitled to everything. Combine that with how much they love trying to tear down the LGBTQ community and it actually makes perfect sense that someone would have tweeted this eventually.

But to people who acquire their knowledge and attitudes from somewhere other than a pulpit, “gays stole the rainbow from God” is such a wild take it’s impossible to forget. And it’s very, very worth bringing up so that future generations will always remember just how far people can reach when they really, really want to.

The original tweet had some seriously classic dunks that are worth remembering as well.

As absurd as Fischer’s take on cultural appropriation is, you do sort of have to appreciate the audacity it takes to demand an entire subset of people stop using colors because you believe a celestial being in the sky invented them and hates gays.

But the rainbow definitely belongs to the LGBTs now and forevermore. Fortunately, unlike Fischer, we’re totally happy to share.
