As COVID-19 vaccines are becoming widely available for people in the U.S., experts are beginning to concede that not enough people will get the shot in order for us to reach herd immunity. This, coupled with the coronavirus’s tendency to mutate, means it will probably become an ongoing health concern similar to the flu and we’ll have to get vaccinated against it on a regular basis.

For this, we can thank COVID-deniers and self-proclaimed public health understanders like Davy Michael Barnes, bodybuilder, and Donald Trump fan, who recently posted a photo of himself standing in the desert with a big white sign and a gun pointed at his crotch.

One popular Twitter account got ahold of an image on Barnes holding just such a sign claiming that only weak men wear masks and get vaccinated.

“Weak, low-status men love this covid thing, because it allows them to LARP as heroes by simply wearing a mask, taking a shot, and harassing other people,” the sign reads. “They can pretend to be strong, virtuous heroes, whilst being frail, fearful, flabby, pathetic cowards.”
As has been done time and time again, people are taking this image and easily replacing the text on the white background of the sign with messages that are both funny and likely more accurate than the original. There’s plenty to work with here. Aside from obvious jokes about Barnes’ penis and the gun pointing right at it, there’s the setting, the t-shirt, the topic of steroid use, and the conspicuous use of the word “whilst.”
