One man went away empty-handed after attempting to steal a Pride flag from the home of a lesbian Phoenix resident and his absolute failure was caught on video so that we could all laugh at him. Security footage shows a jogger in a bright pink head covering, possibly his shirt, trying his hardest to yank down the flag, but it was affixed so securely to the wall that after trying with all his might, he could only jog away without a flag or his dignity.

TikTok user “leftovergains,” who describes herself as a “gay abolitionist doing gay abolishen things in Phoenix,” gained over 878,000 views on the video platform alone, as well as plenty more on Twitter, by posting the footage for all to see. After getting many requests from commenters, she made a follow-up video showing exactly why the young man in the video had such a hard time pulling down her flag.

The Pride flag was hung in front of the garage door so that the secured part was hidden by the top of the entryway, which is why the man couldn’t see that it was held by two metal carabiners attached to looped screws drilled into the wood. You’d need a truck or a pair of scissors to get that thing down.

Though the image of the ultra-handy lesbian is definitely a stereotype, it’s always fun to watch stereotypes occasionally work in the favor of the people they’re applied to.

“You will NOT out-construct a pair of lesbians,” said one commenter. “Its impossible.”

The video gained so much popularity that people began suggesting that if the dude wants a Pride flag so badly, maybe they could all chip in to buy him one that he can hang over his own garage, or, if necessary, in his closet. The owner of the original flag liked the idea enough to make another follow-up video addressing it and suggesting that any extra funds gathered could be used to help others in need.

“Yo, legit, I actually do a lot of mutual aid work here in Phoenix for Mutual Aid Phoenix, Unsheltered Phoenix, a couple other organizations, and I’m thinking of doing a fundraiser for this gentleman and then using the extras for that kind of work,” she says. “Y’all chip in to help him buy a flag?”

She included her mutual aid Venmo handle @leftovermutualaid for anyone who wants to help the little guy out, plus probably a lot of homeless folks in the Phoenix area.
