Video footage of what appears to be a spontaneous breaking out of the U.S. national anthem was caught at a Walmart store in Haslet, Texas, and is splitting the country in reactions, with Fox News lauding it as “patriotic” and others comparing it to scenes we tend to consider unsettling when they come out of places like North Korea.

According to local reports, a single Walmart shopper began singing the anthem, though it remains unclear why, and a whole host of other shoppers were soon joining in.

It wasn’t long before a video of the incident appeared on a TikTok account named “Texan Raised Right,” which sounds about right.

“Very Patriotic scene in the Haslet, Tx Walmart 7/3/21,” says the overlay text, “someone started singing the National Anthem and people joined in.”

Not everyone found it to be “very patriotic” considering the last year and a half that the nation has endured, with some not exactly sure what people are singing about while the country is still languishing in an evolving pandemic and having to ban fireworks because we didn’t do anything about climate change. Certain others noticed the demographics of the singalong and expressed that they would have left immediately upon witnessing such an event.

Reactions to the scene have been varied, though a theme of suggesting songs to replace the national anthem has been fairly popular, and plenty have made sure to bring up the fact that the underpaid Walmart employees were the true victims here. The video soon made it onto Twitter, reposted by someone who aspires to be a GETTR user, and the reactions there have been even funnier.
