‘Ken’ Calls Cops On Indigenous Teen After Accusing Her Of Trying To Steal Her Own Car

An Indigenous woman went to TikTok to showcase what she characterized as a racist call to the police—by a white man concerned that he was witnessing a crime. Specifically, he thought the TikToker was stealing from a car, but it was actually from the car that belonged to the “suspect.”

The video comes from TikToker @taniahswampy, who identifies in her bio as Indigenous and 19 years old. The TikToker captioned the video, “Racism needs to stop man!! Waste of our time having to wait for the cops just to tell us we’re good to leave.”

The video begins with a caption, using TikTok’s automated voice-over feature, setting the scene. “Man called the cops because he thought we were stealing from our own vehicle,” it reads, with an eye-roll emoji to make clear how the TikToker felt about the incident.

The video goes on to show the man on his phone standing in front of a car, and later in the video, his wife appears, seemingly wanting him to just drop the allegation.

But there’s a part two to the video. According to the TikToker, once he learned who the car actually belonged to, he falsely told the police that his car had been hit so the TikToker couldn’t leave the scene.

Since going up on the platform last week, the first video received more than 2.9 million views, with the sequel bringing in an additional 1.3 million views.

Commenters on both videos were generally aghast at the man’s display, with one remarking, “He should be charged for wasting taxpayers’ money for the police to even respond to this call.”

Others expressed sympathy and concern for the man’s wife, with one person predicting, “I think the wife is gonna divorce him,” and another observing, “His wife looks like she doesn’t even like him.”

Still, others focused on the dog in the car, with one person imagining the dog asking, “Can we go now?”

There’s also a part three, in which the TikToker states, “Police said we had to wait for him to leave first,” and the TikToker’s phone died before she was able to capture all of it.

But it did eventually end, though as the TikToker assessed, it was “all the drama for nothing.”
