‘Normalize Checking Men’—Woman Praised For Going Off On Touchy Stranger At A Bar

While bars may be a great place to flirt and scope out people you might be interested in getting to know better, there are always going to be guys who just don’t get the message that you’re not interested.

TikToker @haleymcquinn_ was out with her friends when some guy at a bar decided it was appropriate to keep touching on one of them despite her obvious disinterest. And the friend really wasn’t going to let it slide.

The start of the video shows the man pulling up a chair to sit directly behind Haley’s friend, Calla. As he does, he leans his arm over the back of her chair and grazed his elbow alongside her back.

“Oh sh*t, I touched her again,” he loudly exclaims, suggesting she’d already told him to leave her alone at least once prior to this.

Calla goes back to ignoring him, facing the bar, but the guy doesn’t seem interested in leaving her alone. The video cuts to a later moment when he’s trying to claim he’s actually talking to her friend, his arm again resting over the back of Calla’s chair. The guy smirks as he makes a semantic argument, still thinking there’s any chance of this going right for him.

But Calla is done with it.

“You’re talking to her about me and talking about my trauma, because yes, for the last f—king 30 years of my life [men] don’t know how to keep space,” she tells him. “They touch you inappropriately, they talk to you inappropriately, they be in your motherf—king space inappropriately.”

The guy looks taken aback as he mumbles something, and the video ends.

Haley captioned the video “normalize checking men,” and the commenters obviously agreed.

“It’s the way he thinks he can use the chair she is sitting on, def cover your drink vibes,” wrote one user.

“When they gaslight you and try to make you feel like you’re overreacting for normally reacting to their disrespect,” said another.

Calla reposted the video to her own page as well, commenting only about how the man was “so obtuse… obviously can’t read facial expressions or body language.”

It’s unclear if the guy finally got the message after that or if he kept messing with them, but considering how many people in the comments on both Haley and Calla’s pages suggested pepper spraying the guy right away, it seems safe to say that whatever happened, he got off pretty easy for as aggressively rude as he was being.
