You might want to think twice about donating your hard-earned cash to a church — you never know when leaders are secretly using it to fund their sex parties.

Italian priest Francesco Spagnesi is under fire after siphoning money from his church’s bank account to the tune of nearly $120,000 to do just that, although his grift allegedly didn’t stop there.

As originally reported in Corriere della Sera and translated by The Times, Spagnesi aroused suspicion awhile back after snagging the money from the account, but at the time, all that really happened was that he was cut off from the church’s bank.

But his roommate recently imported a liter of GHB from the Netherlands, drawing attention from the police.

Spagnesi and his roommate have allegedly been throwing these weekly parties, which The Times called “gay sex parties,” for at least the last two years, inviting people they met online for drugs and debauchery certainly unexpected from a priest.

And after his access to the church bank account was cut off for the wildly suspicious withdrawal, Spagnesi reportedly began asking churchgoers for money directly, under the pretense of donating it to charity. It’s unclear exactly how much he managed to swindle from parishioners in that manner, but it was estimated to be in the thousands.

The priest appears to be blaming cocaine for his thievery, telling reporters in Italian that “the cocaine vortex swallowed me.”

“The drug made me betray my parishioners, it made me tell lies, it made me take actions that I am ashamed of,” he said.

It’s an excuse several steps up from blaming the devil for your own poor choices, but perhaps Spagnesi will get to that once he needs to cite a reason for taking the drugs in the first place.

In the meantime, he’s reportedly under house arrest but has yet to be charged for either the theft or buying and selling drugs.

It’s also given the internet an excuse to bring back this incredibly unfortunate screenshot:
