A woman named Amanda Martinez went viral over CCTV footage that showed her throwing soup into the face of the branch manager at Sol de Jalisco Mexican restaurant in Temple, Texas, named Jannelle Broland. The two were arguing in the footage when the soup started flying. Martinez was arrested this week by the Temple Police Department and charged with assault causing bodily injury.

A spokesperson told LADbible, “The suspect involved in a disturbance on 7 November at Sol De Jalisco, 4201 S. General Bruce Dr., is in custody this morning. At 9.30 am a warrant service for assault causing bodily injury was issued for 31-year-old Amanda Martinez off State Highway 317. She was placed under arrest and transported to Bell County Jail.”

Broland’s story also went viral because of her TikTok explaining what happened, saying Martinez had called the restaurant to complain that the soup was so hot it melted the plastic lid into the soup itself. Broland apologized and offered to help her with a refund, but Martinez just got nastier and nastier.

Eventually, Broland hung up only for Martinez to show back up at the restaurant. She told the Daily Mail, “Every time I would mention a refund or a free replacement meal, she would just cut me off and kept saying ‘This is f-cking ridiculous’ or ‘Look at this shit.’ She did not seem to want anything, just to berate me.”

The soup had cooled down by the time it was thrown in Broland’s face, but it was extremely spicy and made her eyes burn and gave her a nose bleed. She has recovered physically, but emotionally it’s been difficult.

“The experience itself was traumatizing and heartbreaking,” she said. “I felt my spirit had been broken just knowing someone could do something so awful and then laugh about it.”

Deputy Chief Allen Teston of the local police department said of the incident, “We do not condone this type of behavior and hold our citizens to the highest standard. If a citizen believes they have received poor service we advise them to remain civil until the problem is resolved.”

So, that’s a no on soup throwing.
