Video footage coming out of the Kuzbass region in Siberia, Russia, appears to show furious moms shouting down the region’s governor as he speaks to them about Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, calling it a “special military operation” rather than war. This has been the official line of the Russian government since their forces first crossed the border into the neighboring nation, launching a conflict that they still refuse to call a war even as they have begun a prolonged bombing campaign in Ukraine targeting residential areas.

Many Russian citizens have come out against the war in spite of the very real threat of arrest, with Russian police detaining thousands of anti-war protesters in the space of a few days. Mothers in particular are expressing extreme dissatisfaction with the way their sons have been thrown into the conflict without knowing where they were going or why, accusing the Kremlin of using their children as “cannon fodder.”

“We were all deceived, all deceived. They were sent there as cannon fodder,” one woman says to Governor Sergey Tsivilev. “Why were our boys sent there? They were not trained. Look at these boys, they’re 20 years old.”
Tsivilev tries to deny that anyone was deceived, but the mother isn’t having it. Since the Russian government brought her family into the war, she brings his own son into the subject for him.
“Where is your son by the way?”
“My son is studying at university,” Tsivilev says after a beat.
“Studying at university?” the incredulous mom echoes.
This seems to kick off some debate among the crowd, and Tsivilev tries to regain control of the meeting, apparently held in a school gym, but bungles it spectacularly when he uttered the word “used” about these mothers’ kids.
“This is a special operation and, at the moment, nobody can give comments about the special operation,” he said. “These guys were used…”
“Used!” Another mom shouts. “So our children were used?”

Tsivilev goes on to say that no one can “draw any conclusions” about or “criticize” what he again calls a “military operation,” assuring the crowd that the fighting will end “very soon.”
“When everyone is killed!” someone yells before the video wraps up.
These are the indicative estimates of Russia’s losses as of March 7, according to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. pic.twitter.com/8rfBcPS6gJ

Though there is always the possibility that numbers have been inflated for the purpose of morale, Ukraine’s armed forces have claimed to have killed over 11,000 Russian soldiers so far. Multiple videos have been released showing captured or surrendered soldiers speaking out against the war, saying that they were not told they were being thrust into a full-scale invasion of their neighbors and that their own military leaves their wounded to die or kills them outright.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has taken a merciful approach, feeding and sheltering captured Russian soldiers and allowing them to call their families. The contrast between the two nations in this respect has only fueled an overwhelming worldwide support for Ukraine against Russian aggression as companies suspend operations in Russia and sanctions pile up.
And because when you mess with one mom, you mess with all the moms.
Such as it ALWAYS is. The poor fight the wars for the wealthy who protect their OWN children from war.

If the world can help Ukraine hold out, Russian mothers are forming to Putin’s rear. https://t.co/nGj4xG5V4q
