Lyft Driver Shuts Down Racist Couple Relieved That He’s A ‘White Guy’

A Lyft driver is getting accolades online after shutting down racist passengers after one expressed relief at finding a “white guy” in the driver’s seat.

James Bode was waiting for his next pickup outside a bar in Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, dashcam rolling, when a woman opened the door and got into his vehicle. In his video, which has since gone viral, he confirms her name, and she confirms her prejudices in return.

“You’re like, a white guy,” she says, before repeating it as a question. Bode seems absolutely stunned and turns down his music, presumably to make sure he was actually hearing her correctly.

“Excuse me?” he asks.

“Are you like, a normal guy? Like, you speak English?” she asks. She then apologizes, laughing like it’s a joke they’ve now shared, and pats him on the shoulder.

But Bode isn’t having it. He immediately tells her she can get out of the car and that he’s going to cancel the ride. Now it’s the woman’s turn to seem totally shocked, thrown by the idea of her racism having consequences.

“It’s completely inappropriate,” Bode explains. “If somebody was not white sitting in this seat, what would be the difference?”

At that point, a male companion leans in to ask what’s going on, and calls Bode a “f—king asshole” when he discovers he won’t be giving them a ride after all.

“You’re a piece of shit. I should punch you in the f—king face,” he says.

Bode informs him the whole thing is on camera and calls them “racist f—ks” as the woman gets out of the car and the man calls him a “[N-word] lover.”

Bode also shouted out the name of the bar they were at and reportedly only, Fossil’s Last Stand, making it easy for internet sleuths to track down the racist couple.

Meanwhile, people on Twitter praised him for doing the right thing and not just letting their blatant racism slide.

And if the couple thought they might be able to complain to Lyft about the incident, they were sorely mistaken.
