George W. Bush Accidentally Condemns ‘Invasion Of Iraq’ Rather Than Ukraine

Former President George W. Bush made an extremely embarrassing slip during a recent event when he attempted to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine — and condemned the invasion of Iraq instead.

Bush has long been harshly criticized for the United States’ war on Iraq back when he first became president, particularly by Democrats and progressives who felt the U.S. did not have proper cause for the invasion.

So when video of his error first went viral, people initially weren’t sure if it was real or a deepfake. It was, however, part of an actual speech Bush gave while speaking at an election integrity event in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday.

“In contrast, Russian elections are rigged. Political opponents are imprisoned or otherwise eliminated from participating in the electoral process. The result is an absence of checks and balances in Russia and the decision of one man to launch a wholly unjustified invasion of Iraq,” he said, before correcting himself with a laugh. “I mean, of the Ukraine.”

Quietly, after a pause, he then added: “Iraq, too,” to audience laughter.

The whole thing was pretty surreal, and left people wondering if this meant that Bush had actually grown aware at some point in the last 20 years that the Iraq invasion was, in fact, unjustified and a mistake.

But even if that’s the case, a Freudian slip isn’t enough to make up for the invasion.
