Doctor Calls Elon Musk “Space Karen” For Spreading Misinformation About COVID Testing

A bioinformatics Ph.D. and doctor focused on ovarian cancer and epigenetics has tasted internet fame after trashing Elon Musk on Twitter, calling him “Space Karen” for his ignorant tweet about COVID-19 testing. In between working on his space program during a global pandemic while millions of people are going hungry, Musk claimed that “[s]omething extremely bogus is going on” because he got a couple of false positives.

“Was tested for covid four times today,” he tweeted on Thursday. “Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. Rapid antigen test from BD.”

Dr. Emma Bell took the time to explain what some of those words mean.

So the answer is likely that Musk is short of absolutely riddled with the novel coronavirus, but probably still has COVID-19.

Doctors have been justifiably frustrated with people spreading misinformation and false alarms about the illness, particularly public figures who claim to be all smart about the science junk. With so many people believing falsehoods about the pandemic already, the last thing the public needs is another billionaire sowing more confusion about testing.

Thankfully, though it still has a long way to go to catch up to Musk’s initial tweet, Bell’s response is gaining a lot of traction primarily due to the fun new nickname they came up with for the man who shot a Tesla into space. It wasn’t long before “Space Karen” was trending on Twitter, along with some visual aids.

“He didn’t like the result of his test and wanted to speak to the manager,” joked commenter Nikita Leb.

“Yes to space. No to Space Karens,” wrote the March for Science Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Elon Must has continued shooting things into space and tweeting other very useful statements such as “Shakes fist at entropy.”
