It’s never an idea to put any celebrities on a pedestal, but it’s hard to find a single thing to get mad about when it comes to Paul Rudd.
The Ant-Man actor always seems to be up to some sort of casual kindness, and just yesterday, he was spotted passing out cookies to Brooklynites who were waiting outside the Barclay Center in the rain to exercise their right to vote.
A quick video captured by Brian Rosenworcel showed Rudd masked up and handing out individually wrapped cookies to some of the folks waiting
“I want to say thank you for coming out and voting and doing your part,” he tells a small group of people, his voice absolutely unmistakable despite the rain pounding the pavement.
Another video uploaded hours later by NowThis News captured more of Rudd’s interactions with Brooklyn voters.
“One of the things that’s been really encouraging is seeing how many people are coming out early and voting all across the country,” he says in the video.
Both parties noted that it was purely a “fluke” that NowThis was recording in Brooklyn at the same time Rudd and his friends were serving up some kindness on the streets — none of this was for publicity on Rudd’s part.
“This was just to kind of come out and stop people that were waiting in line that were getting wet and doing their part as citizens…you know, give ‘em some cookies while they do it,” he says.
He also spoke on the importance of voting, and the importance of making sure voting is accessible and safe for everyone — something that has been a particular struggle in the time of COVID-19.
Voting has been a tumultuous subject this year, both because of how contentious the election is and because of how difficult it’s been for some people to vote, because of the pandemic and because of the hoops some may have to jump through to overcome voter suppression.
So to see Rudd out there doing something small but meaningful to thank people for doing their part was really heartening to a lot of folks.
Now if only every polling place had Paul Rudds passing out cookies, perhaps the whole country would show up to vote!
