Rapper Ice-T revealed via Sunday tweet that his father-in-law, who was an anti-masker before contracting COVID-19, nearly died from the illness and is now on oxygen “indefinitely.” He included a photo of his wife’s dad in a hospital bed and oxygen mask with a comment that caused something of a stir, especially among anti-maskers.

“My father-in-law ‘Coco’s dad’ was a serious ‘No Masker,'” Ice-T wrote. “COVID hit him. Pneumonia in both lungs.. 40 days in ICU close to death.. Now he’s on Oxygen indefinitely. Ohhh he’s a Believer now.. #COVIDisNotAGame.”

Anti-maskers were upset about this for obvious reasons, but some others also disapproved of the tweet, accusing Ice-T of using his father-in-law’s near-death and potential disability or being too harsh with his comments. However, the rapper pointed out that he was speaking up to warn people because after nearly losing his dad-in-law, he’s feeling really serious about the illness.
“If I’m willing to use a family member that I love, as an example of someone coming close to death from a virus that I assume you think is fake.. And I’m trying to warn people.. Then it must be serious to me,” he wrote to Brandon Straka.

The majority of comments appear to be supportive of Ice-T’s message, with the artist even defending anti-maskers a bit, reminding his followers that many are just going along with what Donald Trump has told them to think.

“Honestly.. A lot of no maskers only do it because they’re listening to the President.. Just sayin,” he said.
In response to angry anti-maskers accusing him of various things, however, Ice-T started writing a new song.

Meanwhile, doctors are promoting Ice-T’s tweet as part of their ongoing, increasingly desperate efforts to convince people to please just wear masks and take the pandemic seriously.
“If you think you’re immune from COVID, believe me you’re not,” wrote Cleavon MD in a quote tweet. This virus is unpredictable and if you’re the unlucky one then it will RIP through your lungs and have you looking like Coco’s dad on oxygen.”
