Texas GOP Chair Threatens Secession After Losing Supreme Court Case

This week, the state of Texas lost a Republican-led lawsuit that was attempting to overturn presidential election results in four other states, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. As the New York Times reports, the Supreme Court rejected their suit, basically saying it’s none of their business what other states do to run their elections.

Donald Trump supporters everywhere lost their sh-t, having anticipated support from the Supreme Court, which is full of Trump picks. Plenty of ordinary citizens went on Parler to threaten domestic violence, like former conservative golden boy Milo Yiannapoulus:

Much more serious is the reaction from the state of Texas. ABC News reporter Adam Kelsey shared the Texas GOP’s statement after the Supreme Court decision, and they basically threaten secession:

After saying that the decision sets a president for violating the U.S. constitution, the statement reads in part, “Perhaps law-abiding states should bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution.”

This is a pretty horrifying suggestion because we did that once and the seceding states lost. Civil War II isn’t what this country needs right now. People are suitably horrified:

Logistically, seceding from the Union is hard to conceive of, so it seems unlikely it will amount to actual action. But the statement itself shows just how low the GOP will go.
