Donald Trump appears to have finally crawled out of his post-Capitol riot hole and made a non-social media statement on the assault and his role in instigating the violence. Predictably, he has denied any responsibility, made up lies about people analyzing his speech made just before his supporters marched on the building, and tried to shift the blame to unrelated parties.

“They’ve analyzed my speech and my words and my final paragraph, my final sentence, and everybody, to the T, thought it was totally appropriate,” he said.

This completely unsupported claim echoes the “perfect phone call” line Trump latched onto before the last time he was impeached. The outgoing president faces the possibility of being the first one in history to be impeached twice after Democrats unveiled new articles of impeachment against him on Monday.

“Because you’ll never take back our country with weakness. You have to show strength and you have to be strong,” Trump told the crowd ahead of the assault. “We have come to demand that Congress do the right thing and only count the electors who have been lawfully slated. I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”
Trump has not specified as to who the “people” were who supposedly “analyzed” the speech that sent his mob off to the Capitol building, likely because they do not exist. Instead, he veered off into talking about the Black Lives Matter protests that occurred over the summer and in some cities have kept going, at which point MSNBC cuts away because they’re tired of broadcasting his whataboutism.
So far, exactly zero Black Lives Matter protests have sought to overturn a democratic election and install a dictator, nor have they been affiliated with, let alone led, by known neo-Nazis and other white supremacists.

Trump also took the opportunity to attack “big tech” after every social media company that is even slightly relevant anymore banned him from their platforms.
“Big tech is doing a horrible thing for our country and to our country, and I believe it’s going to be a catastrophic mistake for them,” he said. “They’re dividing and divisive and they’re showing something that I’ve been predicting for a long time.”
He went on to say that the actions of these companies, that is banning him and also purging thousands of QAnon and far-right extremist accounts, will cause “a lot of problems and a lot of danger.” So far, the only problem appears to be for Republican politicians and pundits, who have found themselves losing a lot of followers in the past few days.
He also said the calls for impeachment were “a continuation of the greatest with hunt in the history of politics.”
