There are a number of unfortunate things about Ben Shapiro, with one of them being his confoundingly successful career as an author.

The conservative commentator has penned titles such as “Facts Don’t Care About Your Feelings” and “How to Destroy America in Three Easy Steps,” along with other propaganda-filled non-fiction titles aimed at stoking fear and division in an already deeply divided country.

But what’s somewhat less known is that Shapiro has also dabbled in fiction writing.
Down at the very bottom of Amazon’s list of his books lies True Allegiance, a thriller about America “coming apart” at the hands of an “illegal immigration crisis” and “race riots,” all of which must be stopped by a lone military hero.
No one should have to read something with such a heavy-handed political agenda, and especially not when it was written by the likes of Ben Shapiro, but every once in a while, a hero arises to fall on a metaphorical grenade for the rest of us.
In other words, @classiclib3ral decided to give Shapiro’s foray into fiction a go, and reported back so nobody else would make the same mistake.
From the start, it sounds as though the story’s hero is a blatant stand-in for Shapiro’s own wish-fulfillment, described as “a military badass who was unathletic and unpopular in school but then he hit a growth spurt later in life and became tall and strong.”

As the list of characters goes on, the author’s biases shine right through.
And a few of these plot points are so on the nose that it’s hard to believe anyone who considers themselves a writer would have thought they were a good idea.

Apparently, others have already been exposed to this 2016 gem in some form or another.
Some may have read it, while others admitted to listening to dramatic, mocking readings of it.

It’s not a secret that Shapiro—like some other alt-right figures, strangely enough—once aimed for a Hollywood career, but failed.
Both of his parents worked in Hollywood (who are the elite again, Ben?) and Shapiro at one point had aspirations to be a screenwriter.

While the world would be a better place if Shapiro had no platform at all, his lack of talent for fiction writing is clear, and we can at least be grateful that we don’t have to suffer through any more of it than this True Allegiance thriller—for now.
