Trump Was Golfing And Making Fat Jokes Less Than 24 Hours After The Insurrection

Less than a full day after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and ransacked it while threatening his Vice President Mike Pence, Donald Trump himself was on the green with golf legends and cracking fat jokes like nothing had happened.

According to TMZ, golf stars Gary Player and Annika Sorenstam were both scheduled to receive the Presidential Medal of Honor in a public ceremony on January 7, because apparently being good at golf warrants the highest civilian honor the U.S. has to offer.

The only change Trump made to his golfing plans after the insurrection was to change the event from public to private, which probably just made him feel more special. The event was highlighted by sports journalist Graham Bensinger.

During the ceremony in the White House, where of course no one seemed to be wearing masks, Trump gave a speech that included fat jokes, bizarrely claiming that Player had told him to lose weight.

“Gary earned the title ‘Mr. Fitness,’ Trump said. “He just told me, he said, ‘Sir, lose a couple of pounds.’ I said, ‘Okay, Gary.’ He said it in front of Annika. That was very rude, don’t you think? How rude can you be?” (Skip to the 2:11 mark below.)

It’s hard to believe that anybody would tell the president of the United States to “lose a couple of pounds,” but that’s a bit overshadowed by the weirdness of holding a golf event right after an attempted coup.

Following this, Player and Sorenstam got up to the podium to lavish praise upon the now-former president, with Sorenstam lauding his no-plan vaccine rollout and Player saying he “changed the world for the better.” While being interviewed by Bensinger later, Sorenstam admitted to getting a bit of “feedback” on the “timing” of her accepting the award when other sports people like Bill Belichick had refused it.

“I’m gonna be honest, I haven’t been on social media since then,” she said. “The other things that I’ve heard, the negativities: not necessarily my achievements, but the timing.”

Or maybe the person giving the award?

Now living at his Mar-a-Lago golf resort in Florida, Trump is reportedly looking into seeking another presidential term via the 2024 election. Whether that can happen, however, may depend largely on whether he gets prison time after prosecutors are finished going through his full tax returns.
