On January 6, 2021, a Pennsylvania man named Richard Moretti went to Washington D.C. and participated in the mob that stormed the Capitol building.

On January 7, his recent ex-girlfriend went to the police with a collection of texts and videos that outlined his culpability and led to his arrest.

The court filings were unsealed this week, BuzzFeed reports, and show that Moretti texted his then-girlfriend from D.C., calling her a “moron.”
“If you can’t see the election was stolen, you’re a moron,” Michetti wrote. “This is tyranny. They … told us ‘We rigged the election and there’s nuthin [sic] you can do about it’ What do you think should be done?”
Michetti has been charged with the felony of obstructing official proceedings of Congress, and several misdemeanors for unlawfully entering a restricted building or grounds, violent entry, and disorderly conduct.

The FBI was able to reconstruct Michetti’s timeline through the material his ex provided; she also gave them his number and home address. In his text messages, he told the unnamed woman that “it’s going down here we stormed the building they held us back with spray and teargas and paintballs.”
He sent another text three minutes later, and confirmed he’d entered the Capitol building, saying it was to “stop the vote it’s fraud this is our country.”
She received several videos from Michetti taken inside the building, and identified him standing in a crowd in other footage and photos taken at the scene. He is apparently not allowed to contact any witnesses in the case while it’s pending, so I guess he can’t send his ex any more messages.
