Boomer Says Millennials Should Be “Humbled” And Millennial Snaps Back

Millennials are so hated by older generations and mercilessly mocked by the younger ones, but we are in general a very poor and broken group of people. It’s been a rough go.

I feel bad for younger people coming up in a lot of the same mess as us, but they haven’t been dealing with it as long and have more spirit. Millennials are tired.

A post on Reddit from u/beerbellybegone really speaks to this experience. It’s in r/Murderedbywords, and shows an intense Facebook comment section where some Boomer is dumping on us.

“Have the millennials been humbled yet,” they ask. I’d love more context about what this comment was posted on. A big picture of avocado toast? Yet another article about how millennials will be in debt for the rest of their lives?

Anyone born into this generation knows how much hate we get, so it’s hard to imagine not being humble. That’s why the comment below this is so satisfying.

“I’m not sure what you mean?” the next person writes. “Do you mean humbled by being sent home from middle school on the day of 9/11? Did you mean graduating from college in the aftermath of the Great Recession?”

And they were just getting started.

“How about not being able to pay off student loan debt until I’m 60? Humbled by not being able to buy a home until I’m in my late 30s? Oh maybe you meant humbled by now another economic fall out as we deal with COVID?”

Okay, I’m crying, life sucks. They went on:

“In reality, I’m more humbled by your generation’s inability to solve and of the country’s major public policy issues of the last 50 years- healthcare, climate change gun control- so now my generation has to step up and solve the issues you failed to do.

So yeah we millennials are humbled- not by what’s going on because this is nothing new- but because we know we won’t have the luxury of passing these issues onto future generations.”

“So when you say we’re humbled, I’m not quite sure what the f–k you’re talking about, Karen,” they concluded.

So satisfying and so sad, all at the same time! Stay humble, Karen.
