The Vatican issued an official ruling on Monday reaffirming its position on same-same marriage, saying that these unions cannot be blessed by a priest because they are not “even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family.”

“The presence in such relationships of positive elements, which are in themselves to be valued and appreciated, cannot justify these relationships and render them legitimate objects of an ecclesial blessing, since the positive elements exist within the context of a union not ordered to the Creator’s plan.”

This was in response to a question they had received on the subject: “Does the Church have the power to give the blessing to unions of persons of the same sex?”
Although the Vatican has taken a less bigoted approach to queer people under the leadership of Pope Francis, they appear to be stuck in the “love the sinner, hate the sin” phase. They have recently begun to openly welcome LGBTQ+ persons into the church, though maybe not so much the T part of that acronym.

However, if they’re going to continue to view the expressions of love between two people of the same gender, or of non-binary genders, many queer folks are saying that they hardly feel welcomed. One of those is Elton John himself, who called out the Vatican for hypocrisy, citing their investment into the biopic into the singer’s life.
“How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they ‘are sin’, yet happily make a profit from investing millions in ‘Rocketman’ – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David?? #hypocrisy,” he wrote.

He also tagged both the Vatican and the Pope in his tweet, which included a screenshot of a Daily Beast article exposing the church for its million-dollar investment into the film.
Meanwhile, others are pointing out the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church acting like it still has some kind of moral authority in our modern world when they’re still cleaning up following their widespread support of pedophile priests.
