Matt Gaetz Brags About Letting His “Son” Go On Spring Break Trip

When Matt Gaetz finally revealed last year that he had a secret “son,” everyone came to expect that we would only hear about him when it furthered Gaetz’s political agenda. After all, the divisive Republican representative had kept this non-related, non-adopted teen a secret for six years, only revealing his existence…when it furthered his political agenda.

And now, Gaetz is talking about Nestor again, to let everyone know he allowed him to go on a spring break outing in the middle of a pandemic.

Like many congressional Republicans, Gaetz spent the early days of the pandemic mocking the need for masks, claiming it was all just to hurt Donald Trump, and fighting for everything to reopen.

Now, as we’re so close to getting Americans vaccinated and getting the virus under control, he is apparently in support of sending kids off on spring break—despite spring break trips and parties last year likely contributing to a massive spread of COVID in the United States.

“My son is a college freshman,” Gaetz said on Fox News. “He had no real graduation, no prom, and I struggled with whether or not to allow him to enjoy spring break at Panama City beach.”

He added that he “allowed [Nestor] to have an abbreviated one” and “did not have a good night’s rest the entire time he was there,” suggesting that Gaetz knows perfectly well there’s still a legitimate threat of coronavirus out in the world at this time.

On Twitter, Gaetz used the spring break segment to call tourists to “come to Florida and enjoy freedom.”

But Gaetz’s quick trip to Fox News to talk about letting Nestor go on spring break has more people commenting on whatever, exactly, is going on with that situation than the COVID concerns.

Meanwhile, Panama City is trying to avoid catastrophe, implementing rules surrounding beach gatherings, bar openings, and special events relating to spring break.

While COVID numbers are starting to go down around the country, Florida is still averaging over 4000 new cases a day, and Panama City specifically is still really struggling.
