Conservatives spent the weekend freaking out over President Biden’s new meat consumption requirements to address the climate crisis. The only problem was, the claim that he instituted any requirements was entirely false.

The Daily Mail started the rumor and Fox News ran with it. The former was a lot shadier about how they worded things, carefully noting that “Biden’s climate plan could limit you to eat just one burger a month.” This claim was based on Biden’s goal to greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and suggests Americans would have to cut 90% of red meat consumption and get it under 4 lbs per year—something that has not actually been demanded by anyone in office.

Fox News took things a step further, actually showing a graphic calling the 90% decrease in red meat “Biden’s climate requirements.”
It would have taken less than a minute for anyone—including the governor of Texas—to do enough research to discover these claims were false, or less than that to employ enough critical thinking to understand how difficult it would be to monitor each individual person’s red meat intake. But of course, then they wouldn’t have been able to be mad at Democrats over something that isn’t happening.

Misinformed meat-eaters who actually still listen to Fox News were immediately on the defensive about their red meat intake.

This faux outrage became eerily reminiscent of how gun owners have spent years loading up on weapons while crying about Democrats coming to take all their guns away.

And naturally, these clowns are getting completely owned by their own ridiculousness.
