After 19-year-old Brandon Hole opened fire at a FedEx in Indianapolis last week, a dive into his personal life has revealed that he was on Facebook talking about My Little Pony shortly before the shooting.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Hole’s Facebook page featured a post-dated less than an hour prior to the shooting in which he referred to one of the main characters of the kids’ cartoon show, saying, “I hope that I can be with Applejack in the afterlife, my life has no meaning without her.”

Hole took his own life after killing eight others at his former place of employment.

His Facebook account was taken down after the massacre, but law enforcement scoured it for clues as to what Hole’s motive in enacting so much violence could have been. Instead, they reportedly found very little outside of My Little Pony.

The “Brony” subculture — grown men obsessed with the show — has been around for years, and has attracted a strange intersection of people. The internal memo from Facebook obtained by WSJ notes that they have “displayed elements of far-right and white nationalist extremism,” and there have long been concerns that there might be a larger than average presence of pedophiles among them, as there is sometimes a sexual element to Bronies’ obsession with the show.

It’s unclear if this obsession provided any insight into Hole’s decision to go murder people, but investigators are still trying to piece the puzzle together.

So far, we also know that the 19-year-old’s mother had previously reported him to police out of fear that he would attempt “suicide by cop.” The FBI took away his gun at the time, but he simply went out and legally bought two more.

There have also been concerns that the shooting was racially motivated, as a number of employees at the FedEx location are part of the Sikh community. They also make up four of the eight killed.
