White House press secretary Jen Psaki addressed the crowd during her daily news briefing and maintained that the Biden administration believes that the new law “limits voting access and makes it more difficult for people to engage in voting in Georgia.”

The new Georgia election law, which was signed by Gov. Kemp last week, has drawn criticism from civil rights groups as well as President Biden. Under the new law—among other things—the use of early voting drop boxes is limited, the duration of absentee voting period is shortened and identification requirements are more stringent (voters will now have to provide their Georgia driver’s license number, the number on their state identification card, or the last four digits of their Social Security number), and most controversially, the law limits how voters can be provided food and drink in the nearby area of a voting place.
Critics of the new law have noted that these new obstacles can possibly deter voters from participating in the electoral process—especially voters of color.

Psaki, responding to Fox News journalist Edward Lawrence—who clearly is not at her rhetorical level—reinforced the Biden White House’s attitude towards the new Georgia law: “I think that is not based in fact, what the governor of Georgia has said. If you’re making it harder to vote, no we don’t support that.”
