Lil Nas X Welcomes Conservative Backlash Over His Queer Satanic Lap Dance Music Video

There’s one thought that pretty much everyone who watched the new Lil Nas X music video for his song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” had by the end of it: the conservatives are gonna be big mad over this one.

The heavily stylized video draws heavily from religion, following Lil Nas (real name Montero Hill) getting seduced by a serpent-like creature (played by himself) and getting condemned to death for it, before riding a stripper pole down into hell and giving the devil a lap dance before killing him and taking the throne.

And in addition to being loaded with religious and demonic imagery, the video for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” is an unapologetic celebration of queer sexuality and blurring gender lines.

So it wasn’t hard to guess that religious conservatives would be clutching their pearls over a video that absolutely no one is making them watch — especially when you factor in the 666 pairs of “Satan Shoes” Lil Nas is releasing to go along with it.

But Lil Nas could not care less.

The rapper, who unexpectedly came out as gay in 2019, has been firm in defending the creative direction of his video, which he says he made to encourage people to “stay the f—k out of other people’s lives and stop dictating who they should be.”

“There was no system involved,” he clapped back at one user who claimed this was the music industry “targeting kids.” “I made the decision to create the music video. I am an adult. I am not gonna spend my entire career trying to cater to your children. That is your job.”

But rather than simply write off Christian haters, Lil Nas wants them to be mad — and it’s not hard to see where he’s coming from with that train of thought.

“I spent my entire teenage years hating myself because of the s—t y’all preached would happen to me because I was gay,” he wrote. “So I hope u are mad, stay mad, feel the same anger you teach us to have towards ourselves.”

And his fans have plenty to say about the unsurprising backlash as well.

At the end of the day, conservatives aren’t required to like Lil Nas or his video, but rather than get mad about him using devil imagery, they might be better served listening to what he’s saying about the way they’re raising kids up to equate being themselves with getting sentenced to an eternity in hell.

Of course, it’s so much easier to just get mad on Twitter.
