If you thought things couldn’t get any worse for Rep. Matt Gaetz, buckle up, because the Daily Beast was able to obtain copies of a confession letter written by his wingman Joel Greenberg while he was trying to get a pardon from Donald Trump through Roger Stone.

The letter states that Greenberg helped funnel “girls” to Gaetz for sex, including a 17-year-old, and that “gas money or gifts, rent or partial tuition payments were made” to many of them “including the individual who was not yet 18.”

The letter claims that he and Gaetz did not know the 17-year-old was underage and cut off contact with her when they discovered this fact.
“Immediately I called the congressman and warned him to stay clear of this person and informed him she was underage,” Greenberg wrote. “He was equally shocked and disturbed by this revelation.”
“There was no further contact with this individual until after her 18th birthday.”

Somebody should let Gaetz know that it’s still creepy for a 38-year-old to have sex with an 18-year-old. But according to the Beast report, the confession letter states outright that both Greenberg and Gaetz slept with the minor, which could be considered statutory rape depending on which state it happened in.
The confession letter was written specifically for the purpose of obtaining a pardon from Trump, and The Daily Beast says they obtained multiple drafts including two typed versions and one handwritten. In addition to the confession, they got their hands on screenshots of Signal text messages between Greenberg and Roger Stone in which the latter seemed ready to accept significant payment for the act of bringing the letter to Trump.
“If I get you $250k in Bitcoin would that help or is this not a financial matter,” Gaetz said in one such text to Stone.

“I understand all of this and have taken it into consideration,” said Stone. “I will know more in the next 24 hours I cannot push too hard because of the nonsense surrounding pardons.”
“I hope you are prepared to wire me $250,000 because I am feeling confident.”
Greenberg never did get his pardon, and now the word is that he is cooperating with federal agents for their case against Gaetz.
Within this whole wild story, the one thing people are really having a hard time getting their heads around is why in the world would Greenberg leave multiple drafts of a criminal confession letter lying around instead of destroying them as soon as it was clear they were useless?

Gaetz has not yet been charged with a crime as the investigation into this case is still underway, but this latest revelation has renewed calls for the congressman to be removed from his committee assignments if not expelled from congress altogether.
