Rep. Lauren Boebert has a following since she managed to get elected, but her platform seems to be telling people that the government will never help them. It’s difficult to think of who that’s popular with, but Boebert knows her audience. She brought that rhetoric to her speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Saturday, HuffPost reports.

“We’re here to tell government: ‘We don’t want your benefits. We don’t want your welfare,’” she said at the conference in Dallas. “Don’t come to us with your Fauci ouchie. Leave us the hell alone!”

These are two of the stupidest sentences I’ve heard from the GOP in at least a day, but Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez probably gave the best response:
“Tell ’em loud and proud girl!” she tweeted, quoting the video. “GOP will strip your unemployment protections and dismantle any semblance of a public safety net we have left! Then make working people pay way more for everything on low wages while Wall St gets a meal ticket!”
“Good ol conservative values baby!” she added.
The whole platform Boebert has built her fame on is strange, especially because she herself has admitted to being on welfare in the past. And now she wants to kick the ladder down and away from anyone below her:
Boebert replied to Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, arguing that “nobody is taking safety nets away” then mockingly questioning how “government reliance” was working for “abuela,” referring to an AOC tweet from earlier this month about how her grandmother in Puerto Rico still hasn’t received government assistance following the destruction of her home from Hurricane Maria in 2017.

In return, Ocasio-Cortez called out Boebert’s low blow in mocking her ill grandmother on the Internet before writing, “I’ll fight for your constituents more, too.”
AOC isn’t the only one responding angrily to Boebert’s threats, a few making some excellent points about why Boebert is still relying on the government herself:

And for a while, the amount of money that Boebert took from PPP loans started trending on Twitter:
Think she’ll be paying that back?
