An extraordinary and extremely touching moment during a documentary following unusual birthing situations was derided in all caps as “child abuse” by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene because it featured a trans couple, including a trans woman who was able to breastfeed her newborn child after her trans male partner delivered. All humans are born with milk ducts in their breasts and can lactate with the right hormones, and trans women often experience this during medical transition periods.

To Greene, this constitutes child abuse, and she loudly demanded on Twitter that the newborn be take away from the parents because the mother had the audacity to naturally feed her child.

“This is CHILD ABUSE!!!!!” she screeched. “This baby is in danger! Remove this child immediately. Caring for and raising children should have nothing, absolutely NOTHING, to do with fulfilling this man’s unnatural fantasies. Men can NOT give birth or breastfeed. They are mentally unstable.”
Fact check: Feeding a child is not abuse or endangerment, there is nothing unnatural about breastfeeding, men can absolutely give birth when they have a uterus and ovaries, all people can breastfeed under the right conditions, and being trans is no longer considered to be a mental illness.
Additionally, the video clip shows the couple directly explaining that though the newborn was able to latch, the mother was not able to produce milk at that time. They will, of course, supplement as much as needed with formula, as do cisgender mothers who have trouble producing milk, which is fairly common. Newborn babies have no concept of gender and therefore have no reason to be at all bothered by whatever genitals their parents might have had at the point of their own births.
Greene has become notorious for being a transphobic Republican congresswoman after she tried to “counter” the hanging of the trans pride flag outside of a neighboring lawmaker’s office with a sign declaring how many genders she thinks there are. She has also attacked California gubernatorial candidate and fellow Republican Caitlyn Jenner for being trans, misgendering her and referring to her existence as “stupid identity politics.”
She retweeted the video clip from another transphobic Republican and New York congressional candidate Liz Joy, who shares Greene’s “America First” slogan, first popularized by the KKK.

In spite of the bigotry being spewed by these politicians, new parents Ahanu and Petrona appear to be in bliss together with their baby in the upcoming documentary “9 Months with Courteney Cox.”
“Being able to even be a part of a process where I’m trying to create milk and my body, it makes me feel very excited,” said Petrona. “I’m this baby’s mother, so by doing this it’s helping me feel really connected to the pregnancy.”
Early bonding has been found to be a very important factor in a child’s future health outlooks, regardless of gender, according to research conducted by actual scientists who know what they’re talking about. Breastfeeding is a classic and effective way to facilitate and grow that bond.
