Woman Shares The Shocking Difference Between The Price Of Her Meds In The U.S. And Australia

Anyone who has had to deal with paying for expensive medication knows how hard — and confusing — the process can be. Sometimes it feels like you are being robbed. Well, on TikToker from Australia recently made a video showing the shocking difference between the price of her ADHD medication in American and in Australia.

The TikToker, @esorirb, explains that a month’s supply of her medication, Vyvanse, costs $29 in Australia. The same medication costs about $350 in America — depending on which pharmacy you fill it at (and don’t forget the joy that is forced mail-order).

“I keep getting this comment that’s like, ‘You don’t have ADHD, they just made this medication and then made up a diagnosis so they could sell it,’ and I was like what the f*ck would they do that?” @esorirb says in the video. “It costs me $29 U.S. dollars for a month’s supply of Vyvanse.”

“It’s not a lot of money that they are getting off of me,” she added. “Apparently that’s not what it costs in the U.S.”

Many folks who commented on the video were surprised — but others knew the deal. Some noted that drug manufacturers provide coupons that can be combined with insurance coverage. In particular, they noted GoodRx, a service that allows users to compare prices at different pharmacies and then use a coupon specific to the medication they need.

All this running around, gathering coupons, comparing prices, calling your insurance company, calling your doctor — it can be stressful and perplexing. You know what would be great? Not going broke trying to pay for your medication.
