While the Capitol rioters were able to storm the building and create chaos and violence on January 6, they were obviously ultimately unsuccessful in their goal to have the results of the fairly held election overthrown in favor of Donald Trump. And as the arrests rolled in, all they could do was beg for him to pardon them before he left office. But those requests fell on deaf ears.

Now, some supporters have turned their backs on Trump in the same way they feel he turned his back on them after they attacked American democracy in his name.

Proud Boy leader Ethan Nordean is among those who feel left behind by the former president. As Nordean faces charges for his role in the assault on the Capitol, the prosecution entered a scathing message the “sergeant-at-arms” on the Seattle chapter wrote to his fellow Proud Boys on January 20, after he realized they were on their own.

“F—K TRUMP! F—k him more than Biden. I’ve followed this guy for 4 years and given everything and lost it all,” Nordean wrote. “Now I’ve got some of my good friends and myself facing jail time cuz we followed this guys lead and never questioned it.”

Nordean went on to slam Trump for pardoning “a bunch of degenerates” over them and leaving his supporters “on the battle field bloody and alone.”

Much has been made over the years of Trump’s contempt for his own base, not to mention his willingness to do whatever it takes to save his own skin—and pardoning a bunch of insurrectionists was never going to be something that played out in his favor. So he simply didn’t do it.

But for those who followed Trump with this cult-like devotion during his presidency, even after he lost and confirmed his loss and embarrassed himself by continue to pretend he didn’t lose, it has taken his abandonment as they face actual jail time to make them realize they were nothing more than pawns in a very poorly planned out game.

And Americans who were appropriately horrified by the actions of Trump supporters on January 6 are having a hard time feeling sorry for Nordean’s delayed realization.

Nordean is facing charges of conspiracy, obstruction of an official proceeding, and aiding and abetting. He is one of over 400 people who have been charged in relation to the Capitol riot. Trump pardoned none of them.
