TikTok is the place where people go to avoid reality or lose touch with it entirely, and a lot of the people on there don’t seem to realize how what they’re sharing will look like when it inevitably gets shared to other forums.

A young woman named Nikki Neisler on TikTok has been going through a pretty public family issue with her dad. As of June 20th, it seems like her father is alive, but on life support. She posted a video of herself crying and holding hands with him around Father’s Day.

She commented on her own post saying that he has a “short term diagnosis” and severe brain damage after being resuscitated:
An older TikTok about her dad was shared on Reddit by u/AlreadyReddit999 on a subreddit call r/iamatotalpieceofsh-t, a sub dedicated to being extremely judgmental. And the TikTok is pretty weird, because it shares some stuff most of us wouldn’t want to share on the internet. But being famous on TikTok does things to people.
In this TikTok, Nikki films herself with the words, “There’s only one thing I want” over her head.
Then she pans to her dad on life support in a hospital bed:
And starts crying as the words “limit your drinking” appear:
It’s pretty upsetting, whether you think she’s sincere or not:
Commenters on Reddit are disgusted by Nikki’s manner and are accusing her of using her dad’s devastating condition for clout. Their opinion was bolstered by the way she seems to have timed her tears and pan to the sound she used in the TikTok, a Death Note scene.

She seems genuinely upset to me, and considering how many TikToks she posts, it’s probably her main way of processing her life. That’s unfortunate, but not that different from a lot of Gen Z people on the platform, or Millennials on Twitter, or Boomers on Facebook. Gross for all of us.
