A nurse is calling out a TikToker allegedly concerned that making COVID vaccines mandatory for staff at the pediatric oncology department where she works will be so controversial that the clinic will simply shut down.

In the original, @ddrushn appears to be trying her best to cry as she explains her perception of the situation to viewers.
“If they force us to leave or fire us, it’s not me that I’m worried about,” she says of her employer refusing to allow unvaccinated workers. “I can find another job. But I’ve been in this department for five years and this is going to affect a lot of families. We’re the pediatric oncology department for the whole state. And it will shut down if we leave.”

The idea that someone working with children with cancer is struggling with the concept of vaccines being a good thing during a pandemic didn’t sit well with @sammyyyh, a nurse who shared a clip of the video before adding her own commentary.
“So let me get this straight. You work in pediatric oncology, arguably one of the most vulnerable populations to COVID, and you don’t understand the significance of getting a vaccine? Or why your employer is mandating the vaccine?” she asked. “And you feel that there are enough people at your pediatric oncology clinic practice that feel the same way that you do that your clinic will shut down over a vaccine mandate?”
@sammyyyh then did some of her own investigation into the other TikToker, noting that she admitted in a comment (prior to privatizing her account) that she “is not an RN,” but never specified what it actually is that she does.
“So I guess I’m wondering what qualifications you have that are lending you to speak on this and to feel that you know more than the experts about the safety and efficacy of the vaccine,” @sammyyyh said.
She then pointed to one additional comment from @ddrushn, the gist of which will sound familiar to anyone who has a relative taken in any social media conspiracy theories: “we see trials on every vaccine, we watch the risks on every virus. just look at the true numbers. do the math… it doesn’t add up + pressure = corrup [sic].”
After a year and a half of pandemic and the spread of misinformation contributing to the deaths and hospitalizations of far, far too many, @sammyyyh didn’t have much patience left for whatever anti-science beliefs this woman is choosing to live by.
“If what you’re saying is true about your clinic, it sounds like your patients actually may be better off if your clinic shuts down,” she said, “considering they don’t believe in evidence-based practice.”
Viewers came to roughly the same conclusion, with many appalled that someone who refuses a vaccine would have even been allowed to work alongside cancer patients for this long.
“So worried about kids’ lives…but…not worried…about kids’ lives…????” wrote one user.

“Yeah those of us who actually work in pediatrics know the patient is first and always, and covid is very dangerous to them and we need to protect them,” wrote another.
One viewer whose 5-year-old nephew has cancer pointed out that she would be furious if he wound up getting COVID from his checkup appointment.
And at the end of the day, it all comes down to this point by @erin_nurse_practitioner: “Yeah she can cry all she wants but her patients don’t deserve to be put at risk.”
