Repo Says Police ‘Dragged’ Him From Kevin McCarthy’s Press Conference After Asking A Question

On Thursday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy hosted a press conference that was supposed to be about Cuba, but journalist Grant Stern wanted to use it as an opportunity to ask about McCarthy’s opposition to the bipartisan January 6 Commission, Newsweek reports.

The investigation was intended to look into the mob takeover of the Capitol building this January, and McCarthy has been accused of trying to cover up what happened that day after pulling all of his appointees from the commission and denouncing the whole exercise.

Stern is a Florida radio broadcaster and the executive editor of Occupy Democrats. He tweeted a video of himself at the presser, and claims that he was dragged out of the room by four police officers after interjecting with a question about the commission.

“I tried to ask @GOPLeader McCarthy a question after he decried Cuban police pickup up people in the streets,” wrote Stern. “Why does he oppose the bipartisan #January6thCommission? A Congressional staffer had four cops pick me up and drag me from the room. I still asked the question.”

As McCarthy discusses Cuba and claims he is disgusted by “the oppression of people being picked up off the streets,” Stern’s voice can be heard interjecting.

“It’s not a Democratic or Republican issue,” Stern says of the commission, “so, why do you oppose the January 6 Commission, sir? Why do you oppose the January 6 Commission, sir?”

As the video continues, it begins to shake and swing as Stern is taken from the room, supposedly. A spokesman for McCarthy told The Independent in an email that “congressional staff had nothing to do” with Stern’s removal. He is still planning to sue them:

He also claims his left knee was injured when he was being manhandled:

I guess sometimes it’s just easier to answer a question than suppress the press.
