‘We’re Not Leaving Without Eating:’ Childish Anti-Vaxxers Protest NYC Restaurant

New York City’s mandate that diners must show proof of at least one dose of the vaccine to eat indoors at restaurants continues to be challenged by anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers who insist upon ruining things for the rest of us.

Thriving on controversy and attention, a group of these selfish science-deniers plopped down at Cava Cafe in Manhattan last week, disrupting other patrons and making things difficult for the servers just trying to do their jobs.

“We’re not leaving without eating!” the maskless crowd was recorded chanting over, and over again, with some flailing about as if they’re in some sort of evangelical tent revival getting ready to drop down and speak in tongues.

“We want to eat! We’re hungry! We’re Americans!” one person can be heard saying off-camera when the chanting dies down.

It’s a common sentiment among anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers who have staged group or solo protests of restaurants practicing COVID safety throughout the pandemic — the idea that because this is the United States of America, everyone is entitled to be served in the restaurants of their choice regardless of any other circumstances. It is, of course, entirely untrue, and just another example of the American entitlement people from other countries so constantly lambast us for.

In addition to private businesses having every right to deny service to customers as long as it isn’t because they are part of a protected class (which does not include anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers), NYC’s vaccine mandate means that restaurants can be fined thousands of dollars for breaking the rules.

And while anti-vaxxers may be frustrated that they can’t just do whatever the hell they want without any regard for others, the rest of Americans are frustrated at how difficult these people are purposely making everyone else’s lives.

The NYPD eventually showed up to escort protestors from the restaurant, although it took some time to coerce them into leaving.
