QAnon followers have been all in a tizzy lately after actor Sylvester Stallone posted a selfie on his Instagram account featuring a hat with the letter “Q” on it and talking about heading into a storm. Many of these conspiracy theorists believe that these are signals that Stallone has joined their ranks or something, maybe some think he’s going to resurrect JFK Jr. and become his Chief of Staff in the glorious new regime. The only limit is their imagination.

What did happen is that Stallone posted a photo of himself on a plane with a hat sporting the letter and referencing a storm in a manner somewhat similar to a QAnon slogan.

“Heading into the Storm….As IN THUNDERSTORM!!!” he wrote. “We are in a jet for god sake flying through the rain!”

The “storm” to QAnon believers references a perpetually imminent set of actions that they think will be taken by Donald Trump and associates in order to overthrow the current government and retake his place as president, or in some theories, be crowned “king of kings” or other such nonsense. Specific theories vary, with some of the most extreme leading people to travel to Dallas to wait for long-dead celebrities to reappear, but slogans such as “we are the storm” are common in online QAnon communities.

However, Stallone has already denied making any connection to the loosely connected gaggle of conspiracy theorists, explaining that the hat refers to Quantum of Solace, which is both a 2008 James Bond film and, apparently the name of the “boat” Stallone was on. This is a little confusing as he had originally said he was on a jet, but to be fair, he is a 75-year-old man.

Either way, Stallone clearly seemed to refute rumors circulating over the hat and the letter Q.

“For those incredibly inquisitive individuals , let me state unequivocally that the Q on this hat stands for QUANTUM OF SOLACE , the name of the boat I was on, NOT anything else , ok?” he explained in a follow-up post. “Relax…. So folks,The moral of the story is…Enjoy your lives and let other people enjoy theirs … So Keep Punching !”

Of course, many QAnon believers refused to buy this explanation, desperate as they are for validation. This sparked some debate among them and non-Q Stallone fans. Some pointed out that the Q is in the same or very similar font as that traditionally used by QAnon communities, while others noted the distinct gun barrel design around the letter that would point back to the James Bond franchise. Still others are held up on the storm comment, though “into the storm” has long been used as a metaphor for facing trouble before QAnon ever existed.

Regardless of the answer, it’s absolutely bonkers that this is a thing that needs discussing.
