It’s no secret that many schools are teaching from textbooks and curricula that are a bit outdated. And one 8-year-old had the perfect response to the sexist homework that was recently assigned.

In a tweet, a woman named Stephanie Taylor shared a photo of her child’s worksheet.
The worksheet showed three women—Sarah, Mary, and Lara—doing different things. The first woman was labeled “under age 18” and is seen jumping rope. The second woman is holding a sign with the words: “unmarried or unknown marital status” while the third woman can be seen looking at her left hand, with the ring on her finger highlighted. The third woman is also labeled “married or widowed.”

The assignment then asked the students the following question about Lara, the third woman.
“Is Lara a Miss, Ms., or Mrs.?”
“I think she is a Dr.,” the child wrote, which prompted Taylor to applaud their thinking.

“My 8 yo with the worksheet mic drop. #thekidsarealright,” Taylor captioned the tweet.
Twitter users were also quick to chime in to offer praise and affirmations to the child.

Some users also complimented Taylor for her fantastic parenting skills.

And of course, users, including educators, didn’t hold back in criticizing the worksheet.

“What in the 1954 is going on with this assignment?” one user questioned.

As you may already know, honorifics change for people based on accomplishments and the given situation. Some people use Mr. or Ms. or Mx. Others might use Prof., Rev., or Dr.
For women, honorifics have traditionally been linked to marriage, and some might love to be called Mrs. while others might not.
These days, more and more women are choosing to keep their own surnames and stick to Ms. after marriage because they don’t feel defined by the union. And since everyone is different, the best practice might be to just ask, which would be the ideal thing to teach our kids.
