Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to President Joe Biden’s offer to evacuate him from Kyiv by saying, “I need ammunition, not a ride.”
He continued, “The fight is here.” The Daily Mail reports this info is coming from a senior American intelligence official, who added that Zelenskyy is “upbeat.”

Russia launched an attack on Ukraine and has laid siege to Kyiv. Civilians have been desperately fleeing and hiding in subway stations and bomb shelters as Russian air forces strike buildings and hospitals as well as military targets. Zelenskyy is known to be a number one target of the Russian army, but he has refused to leave his people thus far and is supposedly somewhere in the city.

Biden has authorized $350 million of military assistance to Ukraine so far, and other countries around the world and in the European Union have quickly announced sanctions against the Russian government, hoping it would sway the decision making of their president, Vladimir Putin.
“In alignment with the decision by our European allies, the United States will join them in sanctioning President Putin and Foreign Minister Lavrov and members of the Russian national security team,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki said at a press briefing on Friday.
Putin seems determined to press on, however. Ukrainian forces have shot down two Russian Ilyushin Il-76 military transport planes, which can carry up to 150 people. But no death toll has been shared.
Zelenskyy has given many speeches online, telling people that he is staying to fight and to not believe rumors that he has fled.
In a televised speech, he said, “This night they will launch an assault. The enemy will use all of their power on all fronts to break our defense. This night we have to stand ground. The fate of Ukraine is being decided now.”
