One woman decided recently that taking a moment to back her Prius up a few feet wasn’t worth avoiding becoming an internet main character and landing her face on Reddit for no discernible reason. According to the truck driver who filmed the incident, he was trying to make a difficult left turn with his long box truck in a residential area when she came speeding up to the stop sign going the other way, blocking him from safely completing the turn.

When he asked her to either make a right turn to get out of the way or simply back up into one of the many empty parking spots right next to her so that her car wouldn’t be hit when he made the turn, she refused, and no one could figure out exactly why.

In her mind, the truck driver should have been the one to back up in spite of the fact that his vehicle has far less visibility and far more crushing power, and there are a ton of people milling around, including children, and he doesn’t want to risk killing someone.
“I just need you to go in that parking spot right there or make a right-hand turn,” the truck driver says.
For some reason, the woman considers this to be authoritarian behavior rather than a request to cut a worker a little bit of slack while they’re trying to do their difficult job.
“I need you stop acting like you’re a f—ing cop,” she says. “You have no authority over me.”
She then accuses him of being the one who is causing the problem, and claims that “if there were a fire right now, your f—ing company would be sued.” We can’t speak as experts on legal issues, but that sounds dubious at best.
As time drags on, and the video is clearly cut to remove some parts of the incident, so we don’t know exactly how long this sideshow lasted, bystanders start to try and intervene while others watch and laugh at the woman in the overpriced car. One man offers to help the truck driver back up so that she can pass, but after the worker again refuses due to safety issues, he states plainly that he thinks the truck operator is in the right.
After two minutes of video, the woman finally backs up, seeming like she’s going to park as asked, but then pulls forward to block the front of the truck entirely as onlookers boo and jeer at her. Another car then pulls up next to who and may have belonged to a plain-clothes cop, who gets out and approaches her window as people cheer.

The video then cuts forward to her finally really leaving, but not before rolling her window down again to yell something at the truck driver that’s obscured by him shouting at her to have both a nice and great day.
As most people know, maneuvering an 18-wheeler like that is a skill that requires extensive training and a special license. Being a truck driver is also a notoriously tough job made worse by predatory business practices that are fueling a driver shortage, worsening supply chain issues and burning out an entire industry of people we rely on to stock our grocery store shelves with food.
Most people therefore will take a moment to help out a driver making a tough turn, but for some reason, this lady said “not today.” Now Reddit commenters are discussing how much of a jerk she is, with other truck drivers suggesting that the man who recorded the incident could have, and maybe should have, been a bit more aggressive.
