When Donald Trump first took office, a lot of people were hoping that Ivanka Trump would be the Trump people could trust and turn to, hoping she’d talk her dear dad out of some of his most cruel and ruthless plans for the vulnerable in the U.S. Wrong. She’s just as hard as the rest of them, with her own suspicious money scandals and backhanded deals keeping her and her racist advisor Jared Kushner afloat.
That may explain why Ivanka has suddenly announced her passion for the anti-choice perspective. In a new interview with RealClearPolitics, Ivanka said, “I am pro-life, and unapologetically so.”
She continued, “I respect all sides of a very personal and sensitive discussion, but I am also a mother of three children, and parenthood affected me in a profound way in terms of how I think about these things.”
Well, this position coming out just days before the election is a bit suspicious. Donald Trump has relied on the evangelical vote to shore up his popularity in a number of states, and has not hesitated to pander to them on the issue of abortion. he was once famously pro-choice, but by the time he was debating Hillary Clinton, he’d started to suggest that women who sought abortions should be “punished.”
He’s also described late-term abortions in fairly bizarre terms that were clearly intended to be haunting, but just ended up sounding like a cesarean section.
Evangelical Christians are extremely passionate about their anti-choice agenda, and as The Hill points out, it is likely that Ivanka is trying to remind them of their single-issue agenda. With conservative Amy Coney Barrett recently put on the Supreme Court, the future of Roe V. Wade is uncertain. Ivanka is signaling that both she and her dad are willing to give up a woman’s right to choose in exchange for an election win.
