Now that Trump’s presidency is heading for its final days, people who stand to make money off his fame are rushing to get those last dollars in, as it’s difficult to know how long his supporters will still be willing to throw money at anything having to do with him after January 20.

This has caused the current owner of Trump’s childhood home in Queens to come up with an interesting idea — he’s trying to convince MAGA fans to contribute to a $3 million GoFundMe to purchase the house, either “for him, or a charity of his choosing, as a token of appreciation.”

The fundraiser notes that Trump had previously expressed interest in buying his childhood home during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but he hasn’t done so in the four years since.

“Technically, he could accept the home and say, ‘Great, I just got another property to add to my empire,’ but he’s not going to do that,” said Misha Haghani of Paramount Realty USA, which represents the home. “I believe if the president were to accept the property, he would do something with it in honor of his presidency. It’s either that or he’ll just donate it to some charity.”

The idea of fundraising $3 million in the middle of a pandemic to give an old house to a soon-to-be-ex-president who claims he’s a billionaire is absurd on several levels, but The New York Times pointed out there’s likely another issue spurring this on — nobody wants to buy the house.

The Jamaica Estates home has already sold twice since Trump was elected in 2016, but the current buyer hasn’t been able to flip it for any sort of profit since then. That last purchase clocked in at $2.14 million, which NYT points out is likely double what it’s worth for that area.

Twitter users were quick to call the whole scheme out for the nonsense it is when news of the attempted GoFundMe came out.

Despite all the press, so far the GoFundMe has raised $155 from 14 donors.
