A Missouri pastor’s misogynistic sermon comparing women to “the epic trophy wife of all time…Melania Trump” has gone viral as people rip him apart for the audacity.

There’s a certain level of misogyny built in to traditional Christian religion more often than not—women, submit to your husbands; women, take no leadership roles—but for Pastor Stewart-Allen Clark, apparently the Bible’s own misogynistic views weren’t enough, so he decided to preach his own to the congregation of Malden First General Baptist Church.

“Why is it, so many times, that women, after they get married, let themselves go?” he asked, leaving that dramatic preacher pause hanging so everyone will think he just dropped some massive truth bomb. “Why is that? Why do they do that?”
Clark went on to criticize women for ever thinking the “chase” of their man is over once they get married, or that their husband should love them regardless of how they look.
“Now look, I’m not saying every woman can be the epic, the epic trophy wife of all time, like Melania Trump,” he said, with a photo of the former First Lady literally queued up for display.
“Most women can’t be trophy wives, but you know,…maybe you’re a participation trophy. I don’t know, but all I can say is not everybody looks like that. Amen! Not everybody looks like that. But you don’t need to look like a butch either.”
In case you were wondering what Clark himself looks like to have such a brazen attitude demanding women throw so much effort into their own looks, here’s the video:

The backlash was ferocious, and not just from women.

While there isn’t exactly a Biblical basis for banning women from wearing pajamas to Walmart, the threads of some of Clark’s statements do trace back to religion, and people were ready to call it out.

At the end of the day, everything he said is just a bunch of crap — telling women how to look AND telling men what they should want or expect out of women.
The church has since announced that Clark is on leave and undergoing therapy.
