
The future is here now, and the future looks a little scary. Or, at least, it does in New York City, where a viral video that started making the rounds Monday evening on Twitter featured a robot police dog.

A Twitter user going by “Thee Don” observed, “Nah they really got these robot police dogs in NYC. This is wild,” sharing a video that racked up nearly four million views in its first 18 hours online.

You might remember Boston Dynamics from the viral video that came out in December featuring some terrifying dancing robots. Then, Reza Zadeh said, “It’s pretty awesome how dancing makes robots less intimidating,” when a lot of people reacted by thinking, “No, actually, I’d say it makes them more intimidating.”

Dana is Tired was reminded of a certain episode of Black Mirror.
Len Kusov, starting with this tweet, had a whole thread about how to disable or neutralize this particular type of robot. “Keep your hands away from joints,” his message helpfully advises. “Spot WILL crush your fingers.”

Money Mitch pointed out, “This shit don’t even look real,” and punctuated it with a crying emoji.
Matt Lubchansky, author of the Antifa Super Soldier Cookbook, projected into the future ominously, predicting, “Thrown in jail for 75 years for assaulting an officer after removing the NYPD robot dog’s battery while it’s attempting to crush my windpipe.”

Oliver Willis chimed in by saying, “Everyone who has played a sci fi game set in a dystopian future knows how this ends.”
And, finally, Hot Ebony responded with some nightmare fuel, sending a picture of a terrifying robot dog with the caption, “Dont be surprised they don’t get these on the force soon. Probs got a bite force to sever a limb.”
