A TikToker posting under the handle @angelsims0602 shared a glimpse of what kind of harassment she receives over her disability brought to an extreme conclusion. In the footage, she is being harassed by a white man in a Walmart parking lot who keeps walking closer and closer to her while accusing her of faking her disability, even though she has a sticker that legally allows her to park in an accessible parking spot.

“Had my first experience with an [entitled person] this morning,” she wrote over the video. The man seems fully aware of her sticker, but nonsensically repeats that just because she has one “doesn’t mean [she’s] right,” and keeps insisting she’s not really disabled.

“You’re not handicapped,” he accuses Sims. “You don’t need to be in that spot.”
“You don’t know what’s going on with me, either,” Sims retorts. “Mind your business.” Mind your business is often very good advice, but instead, the guy says he’s gonna call the police.
Bravely, Sims responds, “Get ’em out here. ‘Cause y’all need to learn how to mind your own business….You’re in my business.”

Smash cut to the man looking totally pathetic in a little motorized scooter as three blank-faced officers stare at him, because Sims is not doing anything wrong or breaking any laws…and he should have minded his business. The guy scoots off, mumbling something about how there’s “too many of them” and Sims thanks the officers.

This TikTok is the perfect reminder that not all disabilities are visible. many aren’t. Some people have disabilities that have periods where they are mostly functional, and others where they are not. Someone does not have to be confined to a wheelchair to have mobility issues, or heart issues, or a million other things that could make walking a long distance difficult. A bunch of people shared personal examples of invisible disabilities that they have:

And a bunch pointed out how quickly the man himself went from being able to walk to being in a motorized scooter:

Mind your business and remember you don’t know what’s going on in other people’s lives.
